Child-Centered Therapy (CCT) is a non-directive approach that contrasts with traditional therapy models. It is based on the belief that children have an innate tendency to grow and actualize their full potential when provided with a supportive and understanding environment.
How it Works in Practice
The Child Leads: The child sets the pace and chooses the activities (often play). This autonomy empowers the child and helps them process their experiences.
The Therapist Supports: The therapist acts as a facilitator, providing scaffolding, guidance, and attention. The goal is not to "fix" the child but to help them develop self-awareness, self-control, and the confidence to manage their feelings and challenges.
Benefits for Your Child
By fostering a sense of self-advocacy and internal control, Child-Centered Therapy can lead to:
Increased self-esteem and confidence.
Improved emotional regulation and expression.
Greater independence and motivation to learn.
A deeper understanding of their own strengths and feelings.
While our team holds specialized expertise in supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), our services are designed to effectively support children facing a range of other developmental and emotional challenges.
This includes providing support for children with:
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Global Developmental Delays (GDD)
Speech and Language Delays
General behavioral and emotional regulation concerns.
The primary difference between home-based and center-based intervention lies in the setting and the direct application of skills. Our home-based model is intentionally designed to maximize generalization and family involvement, offering distinct advantages for many children and families.
When intervention is conducted in the child's natural environment, it makes it much easier for children to generalize the skills they learn and apply them immediately to their daily routines. Unlike center-based models, our approach involves parents and caregivers directly and intensively in every session, enabling us to provide real-time, tailored coaching and seamlessly integrate strategies into the family's existing routines. This ensures that the progress your child makes is immediately meaningful, relevant, and sustainable within your daily life.
Our team is dedicated to providing high-quality, specialized support, combining research-backed findings with extensive practical experience.
Leadership and Clinical Experience (Ms. Samantha): Ms. Samantha holds a degree in Psychological Science (HELP-Flinders University) and brings over 10 years of experience in the education field, complemented by 4 years of specialized practice as a behavioural therapist. Furthermore, she is currently undergoing specialized training to be certified as a DIR Floortime Therapist, ensuring our approach remains current and grounded in developmental science.
Specialized Expertise: Our team's collective experience encompasses a wide range of support, including academic tutoring (with deep familiarity in the SJKC syllabus), early intervention, and integrated behaviour therapy.
Team Qualifications: All members—including our Junior Therapist, Sanni (Bachelor of Psychology, HELP University), and our specialized Tutor, Mr. Nick (Bachelor of Psychology, HELP University)—contribute a dedicated skill set to our practice.
Therapy may be beneficial if you observe that your child is consistently struggling in key areas such as communication, behavior, emotional regulation, or meeting developmental milestones.
Common indicators that a child could benefit from support include:
Communication: Significant difficulty expressing needs or wants, lack of eye contact, or challenges understanding others.
Behavior: Frequent tantrums, aggression towards others, repetitive behaviors, or difficulty following simple directions.
Social/Emotional Regulation: Consistent difficulty making or keeping friends, intense reactions to minor changes, or persistent anxiety/withdrawal in new settings.
Learning/Development: Falling noticeably behind peers in academic skills, difficulty sustaining attention, or failure to meet expected age-specific milestones.
To gain a clearer understanding of your child’s unique needs and determine the most appropriate support plan, we recommend starting with our initial developmental screening or consultation.
Our initial assessment is a collaborative process designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of your child's unique profile. The goal is to move beyond general observations to create a plan that is truly tailored to their needs.
The assessment typically involves three key steps:
Developmental Assessment and Observation: We conduct a formal developmental screening, along with direct observation and interaction with your child. This allows us to assess their current communication, social, play, and emotional regulation skills.
Parent Consultation: This involves a detailed discussion with parents and caregivers regarding the child’s history, existing strengths, current challenges, and the family's priorities and goals for the future.
Recommendations and Planning: Following the assessment, we provide clear, evidence-based feedback and detailed recommendations for a therapy or support plan specifically tailored to your child’s learning style and your family's daily routines.
We firmly believe that parents and caregivers are the most important agents of change in a child’s development. Our goal is to empower you to become a confident and effective coach for your child.
Parent involvement is formally integrated into our therapy model through:
Coaching and Feedback: We ensure you receive concrete, practical guidance after each session on techniques and prompting. We may also provide recorded video excerpts of the session to demonstrate specific strategies and ensure accurate practice at home.
Parent Coaching Sessions: We schedule dedicated one-on-one sessions (online) focused on understanding the why behind the strategies, addressing specific behavioral challenges, and reviewing progress towards goals.
Generalization Strategies: The therapist provides practical, actionable strategies and resources that allow you to seamlessly incorporate learning and progress into your existing family routines and daily life at home.
This collaborative approach ensures that the skills your child learns in therapy are successfully generalized across all environments.
All child-facing services, including our Early Intervention Program, Integrated Behaviour Therapy, Academic Tutoring, and Developmental Screening, are conducted in-person. This approach ensures the most effective results by allowing us to work directly with your child in their natural environment.
However, we offer flexibility for adult-focused support:
Consultations and Parent Coaching can be scheduled virtually (online)
Educator Training and Workshops can also be conducted online or in-person, depending on the client's preference and location.
Should there be a necessity for a temporary change to a virtual session for a child (e.g., due to illness or travel), this will be communicated and agreed upon with the therapist on a case-by-case basis.
To best meet the needs of diverse families in our community, we are pleased to offer all of our services, including therapy, tutoring, and parent coaching, in both English and Mandarin. This ensures clear communication and effective, culturally sensitive delivery of all support programs.
The frequency of sessions is carefully determined based on the intensity required to meet your child’s specific goals and developmental needs.
Here are the minimum commitments for our core services:
Integrated Behaviour Therapy: Requires a minimum commitment of 1 hour per week.
Early Intervention Program (EIP): Requires a minimum commitment of 3 hours per week to ensure consistent progress across multiple developmental areas.
Academic Tutoring/Support: Frequency is flexible and based on academic goals, typically ranging from 1 to 2 sessions per week.
Parent Coaching: Coaching sessions are designed to be flexible to suit your schedule, typically occurring fortnightly (every two weeks).
All individual therapy sessions typically range from 1 to 1.5 hours in length. Your dedicated therapist will discuss and recommend the optimal frequency for your child following the initial assessment.
